I would like to know how you Boomer users rate the 914a mid mount mower(60 and 72 inch)for the quality of the cut. I currently mow with a small(42 inch)Toro zero radius mower, which gives me an excellent cut, but it is an awful lot of miles when mowing 3.5 acres. I have a 9n with a 72 inch Bush Hog finish mower which cuts real nice, but the maneuverabilty with it is terrible.It takes about the same amount of time with each. I have driven a TC29d in the dealers lot, but they are 40 miles away, which makes getting a demo a little tough.I don't want see how it cuts on someone elses yard, just mine. My yard is flat with not many obstacles,but I keep it extemely well maintained.I would like to consilidate my various equipment into one unit. Also how much vacuum does the deck produce for blade lift and even discharge? Thanks in advance.

My 914a does a good job. The 29 being a heavy tractor, the cut can't match a commercial mowing machine, but it is as good as any tractor I have used. It is NOT the easiest on and off though. ....

I'm surprised to hear that it takes you about the same amount of time to mow 3.5 acres with few obstacles with the 42" mower or the 72" mower. I was mowing 3.5 acres with a 42" hydrostat Craftsman mower and it did a nice job, but took forever and used a lot of gas. I just bought a TC29D and a 72" Land Pride FDR2572 3pt pull behind rear discharge mower. I get the mowing done fast now and it does a nice job, every bit as good as the Craftsman 42" mower. One section of my yard has several trees, but with the hydrostat drive on the Boomer I can still trim fairly easy, plus the rear discharge mower allows me to trim on either side. I kept the Craftsman mower for doing some of the trim because the branches on some of the trees are too low to get under with the Boomer, plus the Craftsman is nice for mowing near the house around the kids' swing set and stuff, and over the septic tank where I'm afraid the Boomer might be too heavy. In the open areas, the Boomer/Land Pride FDR2572 combo is great. I can back up and turn easy at the ends. The wide R4 (industrial) tires don't leave tracks any worse than the Craftsman mower did except where the ground is soft, so you might be happier with turfs. I'm sure a belly mower would do even better, but you can't get them in a rear discharge. I get the grass mowed in a third of the time it used to take, plus I can let it get taller in between if I want to and the heavy duty Land Pride mower will still cut it and do a nice job. I can imagine a 9N would be cumbersome when turning around, so that probably slowed you down a lot. With the TC29D I don't waste much time getting turned around. I do have to be careful that I don't turn too sharp or I'll leave marks with the R4's. What tires you get will depend on what else you want to use the tractor for. My dealer let me try the R4's with the option of switching to trufs if I wanted to at no extra charge. I know this doesn’t answer your specific question about a 914A mid mount mower, but I hope this helps. Have you considered buying the Boomer and using it with your 72” Bush Hog finish mower? You might be surprised how much easier it is to handle the pull behind type mower with a hydrostat vs the 9N. Good luck! ....

Jim, one other thing that may interest you. NH DOES make a rear discharge belly mower for the 29. I almost bought one, then changed my mind at the last minute. I had zero experience with one and didn't want to risk that much loot on a guess. I can tell you that it is a very heavy tractor and will sink a bit during wet weather conditions, the front much more so than the rear. We have had one of the wettest springs on record in my area of NY, and I am able to do an acceptable job mowing despite that. The water is spraying from under the tires it is so wet in some spots. Kabota offers the same HP with 700 less pounds. Something to ponder. I wish I had purchased one, (rather than the NH) due to other concerns I have had with mine. Good luck. ....

I am currently using a 914A mid-mount 60" deck under my TC29D. I can't say enough about the tractor, but I'll leave that for another time. I looked over the market for fabricated decks. NH is one of the few mid-mount fabricated decks available. Fabricated decks have always offered to me what I need in a deck: fixability, ease of repair, a deck that can tame rough areas and keep on ticking! I've had three 60" fabricated decks. The first two were by Bolens and did a great job in holding up and allowing me to fix them as required. I never bragged about the cut of the Bolens product, but the lawn always looked good. I mow 5 acres that began 20 years ago as corn stalks and thistles. Over the years the Bolens decks tamed my barn yard to a nice looking lawn. As the years passed, I made moves up the HP ladder. Now a proud owner of a TC29D, I stuck with a 60" deck primarily because of storage space. I can't say enough about the performance of this deck! I have become rather particular of how the lawn looks around the house, and this deck performs beyond my expectations. It handled the long grass (12-14") this spring with ease (HP counts), and worked well in wet areas, although I don't have any water laying in puddles or pools. I did remove the "Ralph Nader Bolt" from the discharge deflector to allow the deck to take those dip hits that seem to appear from time to time. I also considered the rear discharge deck, but not having any experience in that area, I stuck with what I felt comfortable with since the layout of cash is significant. I highly recomend the NH 914A 60"! A great performer for me! ....

Yes, on & off are the big problems. Wit hSS, I found you can crank the steering side to side & "work" it off, or, since the only Time I ever got to use a boomer was with a loader, I put the loader on, & cruled the bucket to reaise the front to get the deck off. I wounldn't want to do that a lot, but it works when you have to do it by yourshelf.
